Mrs. Hooah’s Military Gifts and Apparel is owned and operated by Moi. I created it because I’m sick of seeing the same designs day in and day out. I don’t always want to be the cutesy pootsy housewife. Some days I’m cocky, sassy, flirty, a joker. You name it. I love butterflies and flowers just as much as the next gal, but some days it just doesn’t cut it. Pink, Black, Skulls, Bows, Stars, Splatter and Smears. Some days I want to snuggle up in a warm hoodie, the others I’m happy to show my pride and keep my Starbucks hot at the same time. Whatever I want. You should have that choice, too. I say DOWN TO ONE SIZE FITS ALL pride!
So, this blog is going to be a mixture of things – a way to promote my designs, make friends, chronicle my journey as a wife, business owner and woman. And, sometimes – I’m just gonna vent. Awww, yeah. The good stuff
Don’t be a stranger, say hi

Janette Fleury ended up passing out a life lesson with her candy this Halloween: Sometimes adults act like children. Across the street, a fellow supporter of Republican presidential candidate John McCain was denying costumed children candy if their parents supported Democratic rival Barack Obama.
“They came to my house and saw the McCain sign and asked, ‘Are you going to be like that, too?’ ” Fleury said today. “I told them, ‘No. Sometimes adults just act stupid.’ “
It was perhaps an unexpected message coming from a 51-year-old woman wearing a witch’s hat. But Fleury felt it was necessary after neighbor Shirley Nagel turned Friday night’s annual candy quest into a political debate with youngsters.
On Friday, Nagel had a sign in her Grosse Pointe Farms yard reading: “No handouts for Obama supporters, liars, tricksters or kids of supporters,” according to WJBK-TV (Fox2).
When children approached, Nagel quizzed them about their parents’ political leanings, Fleury said. If they were pro-Obama, Nagel turned them away, she said.
The fire was stoked further when Nagel’s next-door neighbor put out a large Obama poster and his own homemade sign promising candy for all.
Nagel told WJBK-TV that “Obama’s scary.” When asked about children who’d been turned away empty-handed and crying, she said: “Oh, well. Everybody has a choice.”
Fleury said most of the rejected children didn’t appear upset. Rather, many walked away chanting Obama’s name, she said.
Nagel couldn’t be reached for comment today. The Associated Press reported that her front-yard sign was taken down by Saturday afternoon. Phone calls placed by the Free Press were forwarded to a voice mail in-box that was full.
Fleury takes her politics seriously, too, but she said that there’s a time and a place for them.
“I just don’t think politics should be intertwined with Halloween,” she said.

So, I learned something new and thought I’d pass it on to you. I’ve only been a military wife since July 2007 – been at our first post assignment since January 2008. I just had to refill my first prescription this week.
So, here’s how it works at Madigan Army Medical Center at Ft. Lewis, WA:
There’s a number on the bottle of your prescription: 253-968-2999, that is the number you call if you’d like your prescription re-filled. You need to call this number and give two duty days between when you call and when you pick up your prescription. I called on Monday and the system informed me that I can pick up my prescription on Thursday after 9am.
What I didn’t know, and my husband told me is – there’s a drive thru window for prescription pick ups. The catch, and what we didn’t know, you have to call in your prescriptions in order to use it. You can go into Madigan to the pharmacy, take a number and wait – and, they’ll refill your prescription without you having to call in. Expect to wait up to 2 hours if you do it this way. The drive thru line took about 20 mins, and my husband says that there are a few other pharmacy locations, too. As soon as I locate those, I’ll let you know. If you know of others, please feel free to post them.

Ugh… What a crappy way to start a day… I had terrible dreams all night long. I argued with my bf Ambyr, my husband, my Dad… All night, I was fighting with these people in my dreams. And, not like “Your butt looks big in those pants” kind of fighting – like, knock down screaming and arguing. I woke up, exhausted. On my birthday. Lol… I can’t wait to see what else is in store.
Got the link to my bff Ambyr’s wedding photos on the photographer’s website. And, I’m beyond disappointed. Seems as though I wasn’t an important enough player to actually get my photo taken with the bride. We’ve only been best friends for, oh… 26 YEARS. And, every photo taken has me with a ridiculous look on my face. BF said the day of the wedding “Oh, they’re great! But, they’re not the posy kind of photographers”. No sh*t… Maybe if they’d have taken 5 minutes and been considerate, they’d have realized that I flew 2400 miles, known the bride since we were in diapers, was the MATRON OF HONOR, and maybe – just maybe – I should have a posed photo with the bride. So, now – what do I have to show for it? Nothing. Not one picture I’d hang on my wall. I have no pictures of me with my best friend on her wedding day. They took a few shots with all of the girls… But, other than that… Oh well…
The truth – I’m a size 18. With that said – I can take better pictures of myself with a camera phone than these two did with their professional setups.
I’m so pissed, I’m trying not to cry. I know I shouldn’t – it’s just photos – right?

*Sigh of relief* – I’m back!
What a crazy three weeks… I made it to Michigan for my bff Ambyr’s wedding, which required me to fly for the first time, I hit the ground running. Fittings, dinners, nail appointments, shopping, you name it. I fell into bed exhausted, pretty much every night. Then came the rehearsal… Mother Superior, from the Renaissance Festival was the officiant. All the family and attendees made it, almost on time
We practiced at the actual ceremony site, outdoors – under a huge oak tree. We hurried through as the sun was setting and Ambyr’s future husband and most of his family has a rare type of nightblindness, and – we were all ready for the dinner at Mongolian BBQ. At that time, the only ones feasting were the mosquitos. They were out in full force – and, two weeks later – I still have the bumps to prove it…
The next day started early and soon filled with a flurry of activity. We spent the night at Ambyr’s Mom’s house in Lake Orion, MI. Woke up to a banana pancake breakfast prepared by her Dad. Cousin Wendy started doing hair at 10 a.m., the ceremony wasn’t until 5:30. Two Junior Bridesmaids, Two Bridesmaids, A Goddess of Honor (moi), Mother of the Bride and finally it was Ambyr’s turn. Between makeup and hair – Ams looked like an old Hollywood movie star. Porcelain skin, dramatic faux eyelashes, and makeup that mere mortals like us try and emulate – often unsuccessfully – and, she was ready for the dress.
It took about three of us to get her in, fastened and zipped. It was truly a scene out of my big fat greek wedding. The Aunts, cousins, mothers and bridesmaids all tugging and pulling. Ambyr and myself yelling for room. Ambyr, as firm as possible saying “Let Sonnie (me) do it.” We’d practiced the bustle, and I’d successfully gotten her in and out of that dress at least 3 times previous. Plus, I didn’t fly 2400 miles to be a fly on the wall – right?
Actually, I’ll be 27 on the 27th of October – and I’ve known Ams since we were in diapers. Our parents lived on the same block, and still do (our Dads at least – both of our parents are divorced).
Finally, she was dressed and ready – then came a knock on the door. A special delivery for Ambyr. The Postman had a large black case, it was almost 4 p.m. on a Saturday, but Ams didn’t seem to notice. He opened it for her and pulled out an accordian. Still not quite getting it, Ambyr stood there as he started to serenade her with Polish songs. It’s a tradition for Polish girls to be serenaded by accordian on their wedding day – something, as a Polish girl, I was not aware of.
Soon, we were off to the wedding and reception site. Ambyr, glowing. We had to turn around because we forgot the bouquets – even Ambyr’s!
We eventually arrived – the ceremony incorporated several pagan rites such as hand fasting (tying of couple’s hands to symbolize their lives being tied to one another) and sharing in a bridal cocktail, a mix of sweet and sour to represent life in all it’s fullness.
The ceremony was brief, but beautiful. Then we were off to the reception! The night flew by, filled with food, laughter, tears and dancing.
And, so it was… My best friend became Mrs. Jim Valko that day
The next day, they left for Mexico. I returned to their home to house/pet sit. Aaaand… I was able to visit the family Charles and I left behind in Michigan when he joined the military.
The days flew by, but I managed to see my parents, the inlaws, friends and other family. Hamtramck, Eastpointe, Smith’s Creek, Marysville, Caro, Sebewaing, Bay Port, Bax Axe and Frankenmuth… I put over 600 miles on borrowed car in 3 days
As the weeks passed, I grew increasingly homesick. I missed my Soldier, my new friends… I missed Washington, really. Since we moved here in January, I’ve fallen in love with this state and my new friends. I love my new life, albeit 2400 miles from everything I’d once known as familiar. But, now I have a new life with new friends. And, I’m happy to be home
I’ll make sure to add some pics later

My trip went really well. I was absolutely terrified for no reason. I made a few friends on the flight, which really helped – and really surprized me.
So, today – we went for Ambyr’s final dress fitting. Here’s some pics:
She was soooo happy with the way it fit.
There’s 15 ties to create this bustle. It looks amazing.
Detail on the front. These pictures don’t do this dress justice. It’s so sparkly, it’s ridiculous.
We’re both so excited. I can’t wait to see her completely dressed. I get to work on her cathedral length veil adding random sparklies. Her train is chapel length I think. It’s long, but not uber long. Either way. This dress is beautiful and it makes her look like a princess.
Today we went over to Ambyr’s future in-laws. They great! They made me Polish food (yummmmy), and they’re freakin’ hilarious. I’ve never met anyone as blunt and funny.
All in all. Great day.
Tomorrow, I need to complete Ambyr’s seating chart. I’ll post when I’m done

This is a short post because I’m tired and I hate my bff’s laptop
More updates in the morning. But, the short of it is – I made it to Michigan without a problem. Flying was fun, and I have all sorts of great stories to tell. Will do so in the morning.
‘Night Ya’ll

I haven’t slept in 31 hours. Funny thing. I’m not tired either. But, I’m making myself go to bed. Up at 8 to be out the door by 10. Wish me luck!
